Many have been doing [frustrated] outreach to un/under-vaccinated elderly relatives. But let me flag. It's a good time to urge parents you know to vaccinate their eligible kids. Not too late. Even one dose will confer some protection, and dampen transmission chains as well.

The reason kids don’t die more of so many other diseases is because we vaccinate against them. Yes “most” kids will be all right with many viral diseases, but some will not be. “Low risk for kids” is not a reason not to vaccinate them. We don’t want a fair fight with viruses.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1471329726304292867 …

I read a lot of history, and also study some terrible current things, but even as I'm inured to so much awfulness, I'm always struck by all the child deaths in historical biographies. Vaccines, antibiotics, nutrition and sanitation... Nudge your friends. Even if one dose.

Unless your kid is under 5. Then you're relegated to another 4-6+ months of
@US_FDA bureaucracy and a near-unavoidable inevitability that your unvaccinated little one will be stricken with COVID.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

"Kids aren't harmed" is facile, detrimental messaging. First, it's literally untrue, even in terms of acute outcomes. It also ignores latent and long-term outcomes. Perhaps most important, it dismisses transmission (including from school to home) and consequences for others.

What’s frustrating to me is the slow pace of trials for under 5 year olds. I know it’s important to get the dosage right, but there doesn’t seem to be much urgency.

@CDCMMWR makes clear other risks, like diabetes. But would be curious to hear how you’d contextualize into outreach! Would hearing risks like this resonate?https://twitter.com/erictopol/status/1479832190015791106?s=21 …
