The claim is they aren't getting vaccinated because of this relative risk calculation. It doesn't make sense, even as plain math.

I understood Latham’s thread to be about their “behavior during COVID,” which encompasses more than just whether to get vaccinated. Some are surely vaccinated, but they may not be worried about masking at the grocery store, flying now, seeing their unvaccinated grandkids, etc.

Any additional risk is always worse, so yes, from that standpoint it doesn't make sense. The bigger elephant in the room is the *massive* risk disparity by age and overall health-- a disparity *very* well defined. But *politically* you can't craft policy around that fact
