I know there's still no public data on this vaccine but was there a trial measuring efficacy? The only clinical trial on it I can find does not look at efficacy at all, just immunogenicity. Excellent news if there was indeed efficacy findings! Anyone know?https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/01/05/1070046189/a-texas-team-comes-up-with-a-covid-vaccine-that-could-be-a-global-game-changer …pic.twitter.com/sTGWPdxJx3

The company will be publishing more of the data. This is one that did not benefit from hundreds of millions of government funding of the trials.

Was there an efficacy trial, though? I can't find any. and the NPR story hints there is. If so, that's great! Trust is so crucial to vaccines. Yeah it's baffling if they did not get funding for trials. A lot more trials in the public-interest would be great. All for it.

The management of the trials has been a problem. Under funding of some candidates, massive funding for others without head to head comparisons or independent management.

Terrible.😢 The question remains though: was there an efficacy trial? The last thing we need is for poorer countries to feel like they are getting less transparency and/or efficacy than the wealthy countries hoarding the good vaccines. Would be devastating to global vaccination.

I think you need to give the developing country regulators and the WHO some respect on these cases. And that goes for not just for this vaccine.

For sure, especially since we have found out that trust is crucial—their reputation is so important to public health. But I keep asking the same question: did NPR get this wrong, or is there some efficacy trials going on with results, yet to be published? That would be great.

All most people have seen are the press releases. The company says it will provide more details, but not when. Sometimes it takes a while to get the data in a format for publication, and companies have to be careful in providing insider info to a few people who might trade.

For vaccines, ideally you want large trials, and they can be expensive. It's not obvious what the overall strategy is regarding public sector funding for trials involving the newer candidates. Not much has gone to this vaccine.
