NYC at ~50,000 known cases per day. I’d guess as many from untracked rapid tests—and who knows how many untested. ~25% test positivity. Yes hospitalization rate is very low but a small % of a huge number is big. Decision is what gets disrupted in an orderly vs. disorderly manner.https://twitter.com/MarkLevineNYC/status/1477802021218656261 …

Hospitalizations in NYC are rising faster than at any point since March, 2020. With a healthcare workforce which is now exhausted and depleted. We can't just accept this. We have to do more to slow this wave. pic.twitter.com/LuMFgSDJMj

I'm not seeing graphs of how many of the hospitalized were vaccinated. I'm not going to be convinced there's a problem unless I see the data on vaccinated people. Otherwise it's just the people who choose to get sick and the rest of us don't need to try to protect them.

The point is you can’t just wave your hand and say “This is only a problem for the unvaccinated” because (among other reasons) people will need hospital care for non-COVID reasons and you can’t schedule your appendicitis or your car crash or your heart attack.

In all seriousness, if I do have a medical emergency next month and I can't get the same hospital care because children were able to go to school during that month, I'm more than ready to accept that. It boggles my mind that anyone would feel the opposite. :-(

I'm crying, not laughing, at the idea that I would be so selfish that I would close down the schools because I'm afraid that next month I might get appendicitis and the hospitals would be more crowded. WTF.

My dad had to go to the ER this morning and is alone because no companions are currently permitted (Hackensack, NJ). He is fine, but it still sucks to be in a hospital alone.
