Genuine question. I once had a medical doctor who swore by saline nose/throat gargling for upper respiratory tract illnesses—he was a by the book, orthodox, evidence-based doc. I did not research it. Anyone know the evidentiary status of his claim? I did not see a recent review.

I used to go with a swig and swish of tequila when I was commuting in the rain and cold a lot. Anecdotally it definitely reduced the suckiness of riding a bike in the dark.

There is statistical evidence that was looking at humidity/temp and its relationship to flu and your upper tract mucosa layer. Keeping yourself hydrated and your mucosa layers "healthy" as first line of defense when temps dip and central heating switches on, &humidity changes .
