A really good and forthright conversation between @chrislhayes and Dr. Fauci
On CDC isolation guidelines
Not sure I agree with argument against using rapid tests to clear people out of isolation
But this is a very good discussion, well worth your timehttps://www.msnbc.com/all-in/watch/dr-fauci-explains-new-cdc-isolation-guidelines-129732165818 …

But there are other trade-offs, which they've made explicit about workforce concerns.

This thread is why the cdc must consider the rhetorical effect of shifting policies even if evidence-based when reasons are so complex. Folks won’t listen to changing advice if it can’t be simply explained & doesn’t match perceptions. Policies must be rhetorical successes, too.

The aim of isolation should be to ensure more ppl are isolating at the highest risk period - first 5d. Exit antigen testing could be confusing bc +ve test in vaccinated individuals later in disease ≠ highly infectious, as VL will be lower at the tail end. Need to see the data.https://twitter.com/mugecevik/status/1476177258066980867 …

It is mind bending how little effort countries have put into strategic use of rapid testing - maybe Denmark early 2021 the exception. E.g. with good takeup (need the policies backing that!) could plausibly suppress waves even at lower sensitivities. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.09.01.20184713v7.full …pic.twitter.com/3BDqaeyQKi

The new guidelines do suggest tests after day five and mask for another five for those who are exposed to Covid, regardless of vaccination status (excluding the boosted whom they tell to wear a mask for 10 days and whom they also suggest take a test). This makes no sense to me.
