It's also amazing that all media coverage of Signal refers to it as a "non-profit" or "open-source" - both of which are now false as they built MobileCoin (85% pre-mined) integration in secret. And the UX is trash - the one thing which @moxie justified all the compromises for. https://twitter.com/moxie/status/1474067549574688768 …

TBH, I don't oppose cryptocurrencies in their entirety. My current beliefs are more nuanced. See this thread: https://twitter.com/nileshtrivedi/status/1468828584399839235 … or this @puliyabaazi podcast:https://twitter.com/puliyabaazi/status/1471667715249221635 …

I also don't think non-profit structures are somehow fundamentally better than for-profit companies. But BS is BS - whether it comes from Telegram or Signal.

I'm pro-P2P (even despite the abuse enabled by anonymity) but anti marketization of all human interactions.https://twitter.com/nileshtrivedi/status/1468841543293407235 …

My view is that governments have been too powerful and challengers like corporations or p2p networks - even with their own issues - are welcome. If you're weak or vulnerable, there's no natural law defending you. Better to have competition among the goons who want to rule you.

Not worried about regulation? @zeynep - made an excellent point. “You don’t die after eating a sandwich in SF, because Governments work.” Also remembering how Facebook was worlds darling during Arab spring, but became evil after 2016 US elections.

TBH, this is exaggerating the role of government. Even in countries where the govt is not functional, sandwiches don't kill you. Killing the customers isn't very profitable after all.

I encourage you to take the slightest peek at the history of food safety, in the people lived in big cities era. “It’s not profitable to kill their customers” is the spherical cow of salmonella management.

Big city = interactions aren't repeated, hence, higher incentive to cheat. And if we're looking at data, we need to look at all of it. I come from a country where a democratic government is bringing in dystopian systems like aadhaar and demonetization.

So, I personally find value in both kind of regulations: those that rely on human judgment (govts, courts) and those that don't (end-to-end encryption). Both act as escape hatches against the other.
