I will never understand we did not start planning for this on the summer of 2020 as the world. Or first day in office for Biden. It would’ve been the single most cost effective, life-saving intervention compared to the human and economic cost of a prolonged pandemic.

Because 40% of Americans by and large don't care about other countries and they control everything.

If Trump did this, he would have been fairly criticized. But Biden? Dems have some lame excuse for him I’m sure.

How realistic is this number? Is this like "$50B will solve world hunger"? State capacity and all that, you know?

It all started with the Trump administrations negotiations with Moderna and others that allowed intellectual property rights to stay intact despite massive subsidizing w/US tax dollars. 👀-no sharing of tech w/developing world. It has just been playing catch-up since then.

I've become convinced that Biden and team just did not have the bandwidth because the political crisis in the US was/is so deep. Harris's comments recently suggest that might be so. They're too consumed by politics (see Manchin's latest)?

We're also going to see how inactivated vaccines hold up against severe disease.. and whether the whole mRNA miracle/bogeyman was even worth it. If it is worth it then it looks criminally stupid not to have shared the technology a long time ago.

It is all too easy - and wrong- to criticize people for past mistakes. Remember that you were disastrously wrong too. Let’s instead focus on how to move forward out of this crisis and not feed the obstructionists.
