      This has been a problem the whole pandemic. “No evidence that…” when it means “we don’t know enough to conclude either way” being presented as “it’s evidence that…”

      This degree of scientific illiteracy is infuriating. This confusion happens all the time. "There is no evidence of X" does not mean that "there is evidence of no X." How many times must this be explained?

      maybe we should change how we present since it needs so much explaining! the tradition of null hypothesis rejection is clearly ill-suited for broad sci-comm!

      It’s ill-suited for thinking clearly about causality in general, not just communicating.

          Agreed. The notion of causality itself is poorly understood. How often have you heard someone conclude (erroneously) that temporal proximity implies causality? It's rampant in narratives about the vaccines: someone got vaccinated and then X happened, so the vaccine causes X.
