Am I the only one who thinks that this moment is absolutely nothing like March 2020? I kind of don’t get the comparisons
-
-
I feel validated! I think my reaction comes from how alarmed I was in March 2020, thanks to following you and epidemiologists.

Aren't the comparisons helpful, though, on a group level? I.e., if they result in more people taking measures aimed at slowing the spread.
-
No, because once we lose credibility, people don’t listen to us either way. Just talk straight is the best method, in my view and also I think the right thing to do.

what about early treatments, advice how to avoid longcovid? what should people do to take care of themselves in this wave? official guidance has given us almost nothing except labels of "low quality" on tons of small studies. one has to go to
#longcovid patient threads for info -
It's too soon to tell how deadly omicron is, let alone long covid. (far too soon.) Avoid people, wear good masks, and ventilate, as before.

@zeynep Could you be more specific what you meant by "opposite end of the spectrum?" Or where I can learn about what you meant? Thank you. -
I can't speak for
@zeynep, but I can speak for myself and other virologists whom I know: there's a good chance the next six weeks or so will be the last really bad weeks of this pandemic in the US and EU. Big question is how hospitals cope over these six weeks. - Show replies
