See thread, explaining new study: much higher transmissibility for Omicron on top of antibody evasion causing more breakthroughs and re-infections. Do note that even if milder due to immunity and/or lesser intrinsic virulence, still crucial especially for elderly to get boosters.https://twitter.com/mugecevik/status/1471088936999137281 …

A similar trajectory is possible here. UK is experiencing highest recorded number of cases *throughout the whole pandemic*. Rather than arguing over “mildness”, we should take steps now to mitigate the most plausible risks. More is different; faster is different.https://twitter.com/alexselby1770/status/1471154053031899145 …

I hope so. I just think putting a number on it and then going back on it makes it look like failure when it’s not. Better to prime for the possibility that it is like a flu shot.

Yeah, agree and possible, but we just have the period in front of us for now, which needs global equity.

I am consistently flummoxed at the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the idea of annual/semi-annual shots. I felt like garbage for 36 hours after my second and third Pfizer doses, but I'd do it once a month if it meant getting the upper hand on this virus.

Compliance/convenience is important in medicine. Just because you’re willing to do that doesn’t mean 80% of population is.

"I exercised yesterday but now you say I have to exercise again, just to be healthy? When does this stop??"

If you tell me that one or two shots a year will protect me from sickness and let me live my life freely, I'll jump at the chance. Sounds great to me!

Actually looking forward to Moderna’s in-testing Flu + COVID mRNA vaccine. Not just 1 shot but putting influenza under the same quick-change-pipeline is a design that can prevent the next pandemic influenza.
