I’m going back and forth about this @TheAtlantic piece
It is SO difficult to read
As @jabarocas wrote - it insults & dismisses so many sacrifices made
But it also represents a hard truth of how millions of Americans view & have dealt w COVID

Should
@TheAtlantic have published it? It conveys what I consider deadly beliefs. But it’s so representative of the thinking of very many citizens that I also think it’s good for many people to read - to gain understanding of how people are thinking - regardless of the data 2/36 replies 11 retweets 281 likesShow this thread -
So I’m really on the fence. Perhaps it should be published w a warning on top. But that is a very slippery slope of censorship and Reenforcing divisions and information bubbles on both sides 3/

I’m all for publishing a wide range of views. But I think that piece doesn’t represent much of anything. It certainly doesn’t represent most Americans—even those who oppose some measures. He’s performing “I represent real America”—as a professional act, and not doing it well.

His views certainly didn’t match my views a year ago. I was genuinely afraid and stayed home a lot. Gradually my views changed and I noticed the same with those around me. Many who are progressives. People are finding their footing in the midst of a pandemic.

I still respect Covid but my views on precautions are balanced. I examined the risk in light of my vaccination and boosted status. I read about mask ineffectiveness. I studied hospitalization rates. I began to feel more comfortable. I remembered how important living was to me.

I found myself attending 6 college football games this year and there were over 60,000 people there unmasked and often packed together. There was no massive outbreaks. I saw my family and friends and it filled my heart. People are shifting to a life that more resembles the writerpic.twitter.com/5jFfG9J8q5

You don't sound like the writer at all, though. You're vaccinated, boosted, and gradually shifted your views and behavior. Makes sense! Also, I don't think such outdoor stadium events represented much risk for big outbreaks, and have been writing exactly that since Spring 2020.

Nice to meet you. Thank you for sharing your perspective. Helpful as I am trying to navigate into a more grounded approach. Obviously twitter isn’t great place to do that. However it can at times be helpful.
