There seems to be people who are convinced getting infected is some sort of heroic effort, and vaccines are for the weak? I increasingly suspect this may be driven in some by fear of needles, which is exactly why letting people know this is a common condition is important.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1468628813710041091 …

People don't know any history. Perhaps the core story of that "more enlightened" 20th century has been an immense effort and the wholesale transformation of our societies to lessen the scourge of infectious diseases, which stalked humanity forever.https://twitter.com/tristaneldritch/status/1468641821878362121 …

Yes, I wish we lived in a world where squashed the early outbreaks with effective mitigations, and then quickly got enough vaccines to vaccinate globally. Letting the virus continue to explore the whole @#$! fitness landscape like this really wasn't a good idea. But here we are.

Agree! Was only talking about people who declare loudly and act like it's an act of heroism to avoid vaccination, like the person who is quoted. I'm getting some of that in my mentions. It seems like some of them are just afraid to admit a fear?https://twitter.com/MCBazacoPhD/status/1468663573954146310 …

That's not what the people on the TV are telling them, though. Draw the line from their F-150s to their AR-15s to their newfound love of ivermeticin.

Hell, I saw your post about omicron evasion this morning and booked my booster for 10am. It took me 15 minutes. I expect to be slightly sleepy tomorrow. Seems worth it for the reduction in risk.

It's good to note and communicate as observers that natural infection provides some level of immunity but policymakers should not incentivize natural infection over vaccination when vaccination is available.

It feels like an extension of conservative politics: focus on nothing but talking about what you think is bad, with no focus on anything’s benefits or concern about actually fixing anything

There are different people arguing different things here. The point that I don't think you're taking seriously enough is that there are diminishing marginal returns to each vaccine shot, and equal to increasing costs. I don't want to get a shot every 6 months to eat out.

Moreover, the less value each successive shot provides, the more pushing that shot encourages capricious government mandates that in the long run are very dangerous to free society. It's not an argument against vaccines, it's an argument for taking tradeoffs seriously.
