What this data shows is that protecting already vaccinated people from infection is a really bad idea.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1468347730133192708 …

You keep bringing this conversation back to Covid vaccines, but I don’t think the main point here is about boosters. It’s about completely moving on from Covid restrictions.

The only people who think they are heroes are the ones vaxxing and self righteously announcing it while condemning others for not getting a vax.
-
And in case it wasn't clear......thats not heroic.

getting infected will become a reality of life. if it provides protection it is a good thing bc it also protects the vulnerable. I would argue getting a vaccine over infection does not make you a hero either.

Actually many people who got infected were infected precisely because they were doing something heroic, like say fighting fires, caring for babies at a day care, or packing your Amazon packages for you so you could sit at home and feel heroic for not getting COVID.

This is what happens when one side, the “serious” people, refuses to engage with the other side, who are moderate realists. No one here fits the straw man suit your rhetoric has sewn for them. You are smarter than this, Prof. Tufekci. Covid has crippled your thinking.

Getting infected is just a life reality for endemic respiratory viruses. It will happen to everyone. The good thing is that it need not be scary. The risk is proportional to all cause mortality in all age groups w/o vaccines. It is negligible w/vaccines. It's time to let it go.

Yes. Just as it’s not impressive to be infected, it’s also not a moral failure. It is life. And castigating people for getting sick feels like something that happens in failing societies.

Not great, but not as catastrophic as it could have been. Tested with 2x Pfizer, and shows, yeah, it'll cause a lot of breakthroughs. Those with vaccine *and* infection appeared much more protected: suggests boosters will work well.
