What this data shows is that protecting already vaccinated people from infection is a really bad idea.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1468347730133192708 …

I'm pretty sure that two doses continue to prevent severe outcomes for most people who weren't at high risk anyway, so I'm not sure I agree.https://twitter.com/jakescottMD/status/1441071616104955907?t=w4Ct1nJfpaJdvLyB7Mx8kA&s=19 …

Is there a chance after 3 we stop? Why boost IF: - I have been exposed to lab-confirmed Covid very directly in all the circumstances considered dangerous but was negative; AND - Based IGG Spike Protein Test have protection from 2. Get boosted to protect those at risk? Works?

I’ll take you at your word that it’s obvious to you that this looks like a 3x dose primary series. But could you explain to us who don’t find that obvious:
-
1) what does that mean (how do we differentiate a 2 dose primary series plus regular boosters from a 3 dose primary series plus regular boosters)? And 2) Why is it obvious?

"looks like a 3x dose vaccine" feels a bit ambiguous. Certainly we all think the benefits of 1st dose is greater than the 2nd is greater than the third, right? Do we really expect 4th,5th,6th doses would give no temporary increase in antibodies or protection from infection?
-
I would imagine that Zeynep used "looks like" to intentionally signal uncertainty...which seems appropriate given the ever changing and evolving landscape and knowledgeable set

"obvious evidence" this is a "3 dose primary series" Not true and you know it. It was one or two dose primary. Now its regular boosters and adapted vaccines going forward. Be honest.

What other vaccine requires 3x doses in the first 9 months at minimum?

Is this a serious question? https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/child-adolescent.html …

If we all agree that a 3x dose vaccine is not to stop infection, but to limit outcomes from infection then the data from the nejm paper showing booster outcomes is pretty enlightening? 1/
-
The same percentage of people who had an infection in both boost and unboost had the same outcomes. https://www.nejm.org/doi/suppl/10.1056/NEJMoa2115926/suppl_file/nejmoa2115926_appendix.pdf …

Not great, but not as catastrophic as it could have been. Tested with 2x Pfizer, and shows, yeah, it'll cause a lot of breakthroughs. Those with vaccine *and* infection appeared much more protected: suggests boosters will work well.
