Would you say that myth was the basis for the UK decision to open up when faced with a highly transmissible variant? Based on 'wisdom' of increasingly widespread but less deadly waves, I had figured fall/winter 2021 would be better than 2020. So the UK plan didn't seem insane.

By "better" I mean that with vaccines, an infection would be flu-like rather than plague-like with its CFRs.
