This should be daily testing, with a rapid test. It's quick and easy, 15 minutes in the morning. And since testing is an option, this allows people still adamant about not getting vaccinated to opt out while protecting those around them. Imperfect, but nothing is.https://twitter.com/business/status/1456242840028258304 …

Yes. This would need to be matched with a policy of abundant and cheap or zero-cost rapid tests. (What's the actual cost as a strip—especially in bulk form for workplaces? Certainly less than 50 cents, no? The fancy $$$ packaging is unnecessary.)https://twitter.com/nseftor/status/1456253764638289927?s=20 …

It seems that 20 months in, rapid tests are hard to find (or certainly not convenient).

When I was in Germany a couple of months ago, I walked up to a testing site, gave a bit of info, was swabbed, and received a password-protected email in 15 minutes with the results. For free.

In Nova Scotia you can walk up, text a 1-800 number and get a random code, then that code is linked to a test and you get texted a result 15 minutes later.

I wonder if that’s the plan—switch to daily rapid tests once enough are available.

even retail cost varies so much. here it's €2.50 per test, finally offered in bulk for €25 for 20.

As I (and many others) wrote months ago, the USA's lack of CV19 rapid tests - which are effective & dirt cheap, & have been available for more than a year - is a massive regulatory failure. More proof: https://twitter.com/ericuman/status/1456215127993290752 …

Impressive. I'm amazed I cannot go to a pharmacy here in Ontario to get a cheap rapid test. This is two years into this thing.

A few months ago, we wondered why at-home rapid tests were scarce and expensive, unlike in Europe. What we found is that the two dominant firms who won early FDA approval were also the previous employer of the official who oversees the approval process. https://www.propublica.org/article/heres-why-rapid-covid-tests-are-so-expensive-and-hard-to-find …

Some level of packaging that's pretty robust is required to make the strips accurate at all. Absolutely worthless to have a test strip if it is cross contaminated. So probably plan on $2 of sterile packaging per strip.
