Amazing people will try to mislead you about a country with detailed statistics. That big blob of green? Asymptomatic/mild cases. That low blue line? Vaccinated cases with severe outcomes, compared to the orange—the unvaccinated. Yes, Delta changed the equation, but not reality. https://twitter.com/ianmSC/status/1454882236315029504 …pic.twitter.com/4VFDTthlRe

By all means, look at the statistics. Real life data is unequivocal. Delta *will* find the unvaccinated, and spike cases. For the vaccinated, the threat is low but not zero, similar to other viral diseases, and more so for the elderly or immunocompromised. https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/update-on-local-covid-19-situation-(1-nov-2021) …

Nothing to celebrate about adding one more respiratory virus to the others. It IS an added burden. We're not done with the pandemic phase yet—though, as usual, the future is already here, just unevenly—with so many billions unvaccinated, let alone fully-vaccinated or boostered.

Anyway, if Singapore is your example of how it's not possible to get things under control, by all means. All I ask is that let's look at the full picture *AND* let's take a look at it next month. (Remember the Seychelles panic news cycle? Few check up on what actually happens.)

Vaccinated people *are*, of course, less likely to get infected or spread. Here's one article from September @Craig_A_Spencer but more data has been collected since. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/09/the-vaccinated-arent-just-as-likely-to-spread-covid/620161/ …https://twitter.com/eric_black3/status/1455250016906268675 …

The severe outcome distinction is relevant only for the *personal* question of whether to get vaxxed. Raw case numbers are relevant for the vaccine mandate question...b/c mandate proponents argue vaxxed people are less likely to get infected and therefore less likely to spread.

I am not at all of the belief that we should be complacent with Delta. Much of the world remains unvaccinated which is a tragedy and a travesty. Certainly nuances to which vaccine/NPIs/age structure etc. But mass vaccination provides *such* strong results.https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1455247194647314448 …

One of the most startling Covid charts I’ve made in a long time, on vaccine inequality: Rich countries have given out more booster shots in the last 3 months, than poor countries have given out total doses all year. @donatopmancini’s story: https://www.ft.com/content/35a3d40a-f71f-4fca-893d-884fec5633d8 … pic.twitter.com/LVXpH9jMId

And the severe outcome distinction is relevant for anyone who may not be able to get medical services for non-Covid issues as hospitals have to ration services if overwhelmed by Covid patients.

True, although the backdrop for this conversation is the merits of vaxx mandates...and I don't find the "overwhelmed hospitals" argument - on its own - to be convincing enough to warrant a mandate.

They aren't puzzling with Delta? 15% unvaccinated is not a small number. Plus, Singapore tests *a lot*, so many transient/asymptomatic positives are detected, even among the vaccinated (these people spread it much, much less). And they are responding. What's the puzzle?

I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time seeing the actual studies that show this. A meandering Atlantic article that makes the "argument" by endless metaphors is hardly scientific.

Even assuming vaccinated are less likely to get sick, have quicker infections, and lower viral loads, the real world way this plays out is hardly simple. Do vaccinated feel better / have mild symptoms and so go about spreading? Do unvaccinated get sicker and stay home?

Do we have data (or is it even an answerable question) what the odds of vaxxed to vaxxed transmission vs other permutions, setting unvaxxed to unvaxxed at 1? This may not really be a answerable question in the sense of being able to separate out observations in the real world.
