By all means, look at the statistics. Real life data is unequivocal. Delta *will* find the unvaccinated, and spike cases. For the vaccinated, the threat is low but not zero, similar to other viral diseases, and more so for the elderly or immunocompromised. https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/update-on-local-covid-19-situation-(1-nov-2021) …

Nothing to celebrate about adding one more respiratory virus to the others. It IS an added burden. We're not done with the pandemic phase yet—though, as usual, the future is already here, just unevenly—with so many billions unvaccinated, let alone fully-vaccinated or boostered.

Anyway, if Singapore is your example of how it's not possible to get things under control, by all means. All I ask is that let's look at the full picture *AND* let's take a look at it next month. (Remember the Seychelles panic news cycle? Few check up on what actually happens.)

Vaccinated people *are*, of course, less likely to get infected or spread. Here's one article from September
@Craig_A_Spencer but more data has been collected since. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/09/the-vaccinated-arent-just-as-likely-to-spread-covid/620161/ …https://twitter.com/eric_black3/status/1455250016906268675 …Show this thread -
I am not at all of the belief that we should be complacent with Delta. Much of the world remains unvaccinated which is a tragedy and a travesty. Certainly nuances to which vaccine/NPIs/age structure etc. But mass vaccination provides *such* strong results.https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1455247194647314448 …

On the one hand, it *is* a shame herd immunity seems so difficult to achieve with Delta. On the other hand, vaccination has saved a tremendous number of lives. Anyone disputing that can get directly into the grinder.

Oh noooo! High vaccination rates don't totally eliminate covid like we thought theu might, they *only* reduce deaths by *90+%*. What a *scaaaam.* Fucking "experts" saying we should get vaccinated.

You missed the point. The vaccines were always about severe/hosp/death, not cases. Those who claimed and still do that vaccines==control do more harm to the vaccination efforts than those who claim it was never about cases.
-
It's not that it wasn't ever about cases. It's that the testing emphasized other factors & the impact on cases was less certain.
