I totally agree she *is* different, whether you like her or not, and clearly way ahead of understanding the way things are compared to the type that ask Zuckerberg how they make money—that's your comparison set.
Is AOC the only politician who understands Facebook or has some kind of ambitions? Because here's the list of spending on Facebook from *all* PACs and political campaigns, and it's her name that's all over the leaderboard.pic.twitter.com/DEQqy3o7vb
If the argument is "only Zeynep and AOC understand how to build lists or a political base in 2021", and this process requires running an endless stream of fundraising ads on the service you are at the same time accusing of killing democracy, I guess we have to agree to disagree.
That AOC is spending so much on FB to shape a national narrative and harvest personal information of potential donors is a good thing in this context but undermining democracy when the GOP does it is why the original tweet pointing out the hypocrisy of the position resonates.
I have to repeat again that this is not AOC spending on political ads (or any other kind of shaping a narrative) but consists entirely of fundraising pitches. Take a look for yourself in Facebook's ad explorer.
