Yes, part of it. I've suggested mandates since May, but as @ScottGottliebMD says, big carrots are better than big sticks when possible. Research shows an uptick in vaccine hesitancy among young women/mothers: a five-alarm fire for childhood vaccination.https://twitter.com/b18c1swap/status/1449005897221562369 …

I keep being asked about (potential) long-term effects. The concern is valid, but there really *are* good reasons for why we can be more confident with vaccines and (lack of) long-term effects, compared to regular drugs. See this piece by

A more valid concern is whether we are picking up rare *but quick* adverse effects now—very rare events require large sample sizes to find the signal. So, yes, there is an enormous effort to find those, but also, the point is exactly that: they are very, very rare.

I wish I could be viscerally shocked but I'm so used to this that I can only be intellectually shocked. Once again: like many other thorny problems, effective pandemic management necessarily needed deep societal understanding, not just medical competence.https://twitter.com/AliVelshi/status/1449767698540400651 …

Been months since my original piece on this, but I want to add this thoughtful, reflective personal thread here on how vaccine hesitancy and misinformation interact, especially in the context of peers and trust in institutions—thread by a researcher.https://twitter.com/RachelEMoran/status/1469386846710865920 …

Read this thread. Then came across this article in *Today's* Guardian. Bad advice and outright roadblocks for pregnant women trying to get vaxxed.https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/oct/17/pregnant-women-at-risk-from-health-professionals-mixed-messages-over-safety-of-jab …

This thread directly touches on my daughter’s (and some of her friends) personal risk/benefit vax decision. As a single 27 yo w prior infection, she’s not willingly going to take unnecessary risk w her future fertility for vax w such small personal benefit.

Very thoughtful analysis of this complex problem! I was not shocked by the data that showed lack of insurance is a major predictor of who is unvaccinated. Uninsured Americans delay seeking care for cancer, or simply deny the possibility they may be ill! This makes so much sense!
