Interesting meta thread on bad art story. Was it written ambiguously—helps virality? (Larson filed lawsuit first, that’s why chats were public; FB group was tiny private one to support Dorland through surgery, plan to cover plagiarism was to “drag” Dorland in the writer group…)https://twitter.com/dancow/status/1446292353237626892 …

I mean, the writing of the story is brilliant. But the basic facts of the story are a lot more straightforward, if they were to be presented as a timeline and with a lot less writing talent. Part of the talent in art is often exactly this, though, no?https://twitter.com/jeffmanuel/status/1446868182791303173 …

Haven’t listened to Serial but I had actually the same question about it: Why did it go so viral in the online discussion?https://twitter.com/steveolson/status/1446869165550149634 …

My theory of why this resonated is because we're all dealing with some sort of friends breakup post Covid. Can't put my finger on it but hearing lot of stories of de-friending on FB lately

I think the ambiguousness and the PACING of the story is related to the amount of interest. Something about a little bit of mystery engages people more, I believe. Perhaps because it engages curiosity.

With a basic timeline (including a two year period when it’s calm and Larson has a chance to ameliorate but comes back with more provocation so things heat up again), the story is less ambiguous—less suited to viral disagreement?
