Interesting meta thread on bad art story. Was it written ambiguously—helps virality? (Larson filed lawsuit first, that’s why chats were public; FB group was tiny private one to support Dorland through surgery, plan to cover plagiarism was to “drag” Dorland in the writer group…)https://twitter.com/dancow/status/1446292353237626892 …

I got interested in the meta part: why was everyone talking about it?
My conclusion is it was actually written, narratively, to be a lot more ambiguous than the straightforward writing of a timeline would have been. It’s a deliberate “what color is this dress” construction.https://twitter.com/gaberivera/status/1446865414965719043 …Show this thread -
I mean, the writing of the story is brilliant. But the basic facts of the story are a lot more straightforward, if they were to be presented as a timeline and with a lot less writing talent. Part of the talent in art is often exactly this, though, no?https://twitter.com/jeffmanuel/status/1446868182791303173 …

Haven’t listened to Serial but I had actually the same question about it: Why did it go so viral in the online discussion?https://twitter.com/steveolson/status/1446869165550149634 …

As Joan Baez once summarized Bob Dylan’s gift: “You who are so good with words / And at keeping things vague”
-
In some ways, yeah. That is exactly the part of the gift.

I think we all know someone who *insists* we see them the way they want to be seen. Or else. That, plus the bit about the group chat moaning about her. These are the bits that everyone, not just writers, understand.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Having you take the bait on meta is another aspect of the story's virality. At least, that's how it looks from up here at the meta-meta.

Expecting meta-meta-meta. Wait, that's just Twitter!
