Still find it odd how little interest there has been throughout the pandemic in how places like Japan (and perhaps S.Korea) have tackled the virus. Japan has arguably demonstrated, again, that lockdowns are unnecessary. Isn't that of interest to those countries that suffered?https://twitter.com/GearoidReidy/status/1444933202997481474 …

@zeynep has been ahead of the curve here, as she often is. She doesn't look specifically at the public policy side, but she has referred repeatedly to the work of the Japanese epidemiologists whose work shaped the strategies taken by the government here.https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/09/k-overlooked-variable-driving-pandemic/616548/ …2 replies 1 retweet 14 likes -

Yes, unquestionably. At the same time,
@zeynep is about the *only* person I can think of who has taken an interest in Japan's strategies and talked to their experts. Most of the rest of the media didn't.3 replies 0 retweets 7 likes
I don't understand the lack of curiosity of about Japan to be honest. It has had such a striking, different run following a different trajectory. Such outliers can be so valuable for understanding remaining questions.
