This is so true! Of course the IC had access to a document that was *submitted* to the IC. And not a single article touches on this obvious aspect! They all also fail to mention that it refers to the same SARS1 viral backbones as well. The spin here from @zeynep is outrageous.

A fine example of why CoVID origins investigation requires expertise beyond virology. US intel is prohibited from spying on US citizens and US persons. There is no guarantee US intel saw the DARPA grant. A congressional investigation though, could subpoena these documents.

… what are you talking about? There’s no spying involved- they’re the ones who had the grant already lol (not to mention that the people obviously aren’t US citizens)

The recipient organization of the NIH and DARPA grants, EcoHealth, and the PI, Peter D, are very much U.S. entities and U.S. persons. "Spying" has a broad definition and may include searches through non-public documents without probable cause.

Common sense, right? But also naive to think that government and big organizations use common sense. Not clear whether CIA/FBI would have access to non-public Defense Department documents without probable cause.
@R_H_Ebright, I'd love to hear your take on this.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

lol somehow I have a feeling I know how he'll come down, but FYI- fully half of the Intelligence Community agencies *are* elements of the Department of Defensepic.twitter.com/jDaXQMU2hM

Common sense isn't government sense - why would they possibly look at their own files when they are investigating a lab leak in China...

Your argument for why the US intelligence community was unaware of the DEFUSE grant is... because... they had that info in their own files?

Look it's not like the Department of Defense possibly could have known about... the Department of Defense

Hey can you untag me? DARPA is not an intelligence agency—and seems like Wikipedia should have solved that for you. But at least kindly untag me while you look that up? Thanks.
