WB: infections of 4 and 4 ferrets with viruses w/ and w/o FCS; transmission of the virus w/; mutant w/o did not transmit -> FCS enhances replication in airway and favours airborne transmission (may also be involved in anosmia symptom)

WB: P681H mutation confers optimized S1/S2 cleavage, contributes to the enhanced fitness of Alpha variant in human airway cells (shown through reverse genetics system)

WB: P681R mutation in Delta confers even more optimized S1/S2 cleavage In vivo: Syrian golden hamster model to see if the cell-based experiments translate to actual in vivo effects // to compare transmission of alpha/delta variants Shorter exposure time did not discriminate

WB: measuring infectious virus emitted to the air by the hamster. Hamsters infected with Delta emit more infectious virus to the air than those infected by Alpha (at least a detectable difference between the variants)

WB: P681R mutation does not confer a fitness advantage to Alpha Probably the other mutations in the spike (away from the FCS) affect the FCS (e.g. stabilize spike) and may explain result

She doesn't have a preprint out on this talk, I presume? The hamster/delta one?

I tried to post the refs when I saw them, and did not see one for this last part (and since I have a chance: thanks for the awesome work you do and great tweeting!)

So there's indeed no preprint yet, because the results are very recent
