Do people know that the 1890 pandemic was likely caused by another coronavirus, OC43 (that was then novel?) Nowadays, no longer novel, it is one of the causes of the common cold. We're obviously not living in the OC43 pandemic since, and we won't live in a COVID pandemic forever.

Honestly it’s hard enough when plenty of *credible* experts disagree on things (see: your thread on OC43 yesterday)
-
But that's perfectly fine. It was a valid, interesting and actually productive set of disagreements about an open question. (Though haha someone reported it to Twitter's misinformation system as if the exact pathogen for 1890 is a misinfo problem—folks have time on their hands).

The solution cannot be for people to individually try to weed out the cranks. It's also hard to tell the crankery from disagreement/dispute within the bounds of science without the background. (Dose-sparing: disagreement. Claiming documented/big ADE risk for COVID vax: crankery).
-
Regarding ADE, which I agreeis crankery to claim it has been documented. My question is how can we be certain it is not a long term risk after immunity wanes and/or virus evolution? (I'm ignorant on ADE, except Wikipedia claims was ruled out in the first few months of research).

While it’s true that it’s difficult to know what to believe, what’s surprising to me is that the overwhelming majority of ppl are not seeking out info. Monoclonal antibodies? “Oh I hadn’t heard about that”. Educated business-ppl. Online is a different world.

I was less interested in discussing who are cranks, but a scientific question: SARS-CoV-2 is argued, e.g., to lead to loss of of grey brain matter. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01693-6 … 1) Is this just bad research design/data, 2) do all coronaviruses do this, or is 3) SARS-CoV-2 particular?

Leonardi has been right on T cells, involvement of/impact on the brain, and non seroconversion. Months before anyone else. No idea why he's being criticised.
