Fantastic study. It was the act of taking a pill that induced symptoms, not the statins in the pill themselves—even if side effects stopped when the pill was discontinued. The human mind/brain is a player in everything. “Some patients had fewer symptoms on statins than placebo.”https://twitter.com/JWatch/status/1441029583042719744 …

Statins' side effects seem more related to taking a pill than to what's in the pill. https://jwat.ch/3EIMRnp  @hmkyale #statins

If it needs to be said, this study wasn’t about rare serious side effects, or complications like rhabdomyolysis! It’s just an important demonstration of mind/brain/body unity.https://twitter.com/Crystal_Ball1/status/1441165344026947587 …

For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the condition that statins triggered in both my mother and mother in law. Both are deceased 10+ years. Rapid onset severe debilitating muscle pain. Both had to go on prednisone which then triggered diabetes. Nightmare situation.

Also obviously, the fact that your mind/brain is part of the side effect profile doesn’t mean the medicine doesn’t have side effects itself. The philosophical duality is outdated.

I was in physical therapy for weeks due to a high dose of Crestor. Wish I’d known that it was in my head.

You know this isn’t about rare but super serious side effects. Did you have rhabdomyolysis? Sorry to hear that.

The idea of “placebo effect” is based on a false dualism between mind and body

Not a doctor but my guess from someone I know who had similar symptoms is Polymyalgia Rheumatica.

Makes me wonder if you could reduce side effects just by switching delivery methods. Pill bugging you? Try the nasal spray. Spray bad? Try the pill. Patient expects a reduction in side effects after switching and therefore gets one.

There have been experiments on pill color. But just like how we know needles in vaccine ads turn people off from getting vaccinated and have known it for a million years, nothing changes, here's your terrifying color pill.
