The mayor of San Fransisco at a jazz club last Thursday. The maskless partying became news because a reporter was there. Yes there is a mask mandate in SF. The issue isn’t what I think is fine. It’s that rules work if they’re workable and seen as fair.pic.twitter.com/keFyl2YbKN

I've seen many examples globally, but it would be an interesting case study to compare and contrast rules and countries, and politicians caught breaking and flaunting them.https://twitter.com/MaxAllstadt/status/1439979713250856960 …

Also, this has been going crazy viral for days now, especially among people/groups opposed to masking and/or mandates. If today is the first you've seen it, think about this moment again when you wonder why things are difficult.

*"San Francisco" — for some reason I can RT videos only from the phone and my typo defenses are even weaker on the phone.

Talking to my peer group, we are nearly unanimous that we have not been eating/drinking inside restaurants/bars even though the rules say it's ok. Pretty much all of us agree that it's not ok. Would be nice to get
@LondonBreed to make a statement along these lines.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Is the "being seen as fair/workable" point about the optics of the clip or the enforcement of the rule? Not masking b/w bites at restaurants seems implicitly allowed. I had assumed the same was true b/w drink sips at bars, at least as a matter of social practice. Is this not so?

IOW, what if she was in fact sipping her drink every minute or two, which I don't know? I *think* that would be consistent with the implicit rule (reflected in social practice), and such a rule seems workable--as it is in restaurants--whether or not it's good.

Here, Mayor Breed tells us that when she danced at the club without wearing a mask, she was "following" the requirement to wear a mask.
If only she'd said, "... and in the process, I made a mistake."pic.twitter.com/MU0QqUsCKZ

Thx for excellent reporting always. Actually rule makes no sense & doesn’t work given the loophole to unmask to eat/drink. There is no safe distance for mask removal indoors esp in underventilated packed environment w/people spewing aerosols and no vax verification
