I do it because I can read the science but let me tell you why exercise is a scam. When you exercise — get this — you get HUNGRY. That’s some Amway level bullshit right there.

I have this alternative life where I open a gym. I wrote a single article on exercise but I’ve had personal trainers hear my name and go… zeynep? The one that wrote that article? (It’s short & explains, inter alia, why cardio isn’t great for weight loss) https://medium.com/message/put-down-the-pink-dumbbell-1049400ede28 …pic.twitter.com/TclAPjsAbi

Damn I would go to your gym. I’d probably want to look good b/c this whole world has socialized me to care about such things, but imagine walking into a place where the mantra was “Lift. Move. Regularly.” And we celebrated tiny wins each time we took care of ourselves. Damn.

Many are lured to the gym with the wrong promise (weight-loss) and get cheated on both exercise & weight considerations. Weight is complex but its relationship to different types of exercise is mostly the opposite of the gym industry propaganda. (The “tone don’t bulk” nonsense).
