The mask RCT makes me think we talk a lot about creating an impervious filtration barrier for people to protect themselves but not enough about how modest mask interventions can meaningfully impact spread even if imperfect

Also they got measurable effect without universal mask coverage (only ~40% wearing) in a setting with very little truly unventilated/sealed indoors (rural Bangladesh) with a much less infectious strain and a young population. The setup of setups to find no effect... And yet...

…and with transmission possible between villages blunting the cluster randomization, and without correcting their serology-derived endpoint for baseline seroprevalence. And yet! Impressive study, impressive result.

Yeah. Also can’t believe we got stuck at any mask is better than none (true imo) but never moved past that. They find surgical masks retain filtration through many washings!
