New Spike Lee documentary about the pandemic opens with Ian Lipkin—Columbia virologist—saying he first heard about the outbreak on *December 15th*. Watched it three times to make sure I heard it right. Lee asks and Lipkin repeats the date. This is a big deal, no? December 15???pic.twitter.com/nE355EALac

I was fully aware of it by New Years Day just from reading Twitter . I remember asking family if they were aware when we got together for the holiday .

I had read about it in the news no later than 12/17/19. I asked someone at a meeting that day if they’d heard about it & said I had a very very bad feeling about it. All I remember about the article is that scientists were baffled & that not much info was being shared about it.

I assure you, there was no news of it on December 17th.

There was definitely news. Because I was travelling in China starting dec 15th, and by 18th i was supposed to go to Wuhan but my mom told me not to because the news said abt this strange pneumonia

The news hit early January for mums. Unless she's an epidemiologist with connections to China My mum told me then. I didn't listen ,I went back to my house in Hubei ,for CNY. It's unlikely nobody I know in Hubei knew anything, yet your mum did. Late Nov early Dec was plague.pic.twitter.com/mnEZoVvMoI

I thus changed destination and went to kunming instead of Wuhan on dec 18th. No one knew how scary it would be, my mom saw the news assumed it was some severe form of h1n1 or sth, but warned me nevertheless.

There wasn’t mainstream news, but people were hearing rumors, especially people traveling in Asia and Europe in December 2019. They didn’t know what it was, but there was talk of a new virus killing people. I don’t find that unusual.
