So terrible. Emerged very fast, no time for full evacuation. Also they can’t evacuate hospitals in the area—nowhere to go. Everybody else is full because of the influx of Covid patients. Yes, flatten the curve wasn’t a permanent solution but the crisis it creates was/is real.https://twitter.com/JimCantore/status/1431564741219135490 …

What’s sad is most of weather Twitter predicted this a week ago and everyone just sat around watching it come true.

It is horrible. I do wonder with climate change if human habitation in New Orleans is going to be viable going forward. I have a lot of friends who love that city and I’ve enjoyed visiting there. My thoughts are with the people awaiting this hurricane

I'd say yes, very rapid intensification, but also on Thursday BEFORE it was a depression, the National Hurricane Center was putting out statements about this storm rapidly intensifying and striking the Gulf coast. There was more time to prepare than has been perceived.

Probably is time to stop thinking on hurricanes as storm-based disasters, and rather prepare for them as people prepare for earthquakes: just assume they *will* happen at any time, with no warning, and without any hint of its severity.
