It's been a genuine honor to write for the Atlantic for years, but especially during the pandemic. I cannot say enough about what an amazing crew they are. As amazing as the new position is, that part is genuinely bittersweet for me. Hard to overstate my respect for them.

I am going to remain an academic! This year, I'm at Columbia University but I remain affiliated with the University of North Carolina as well. I've had the most amazing fortune in my academic career. Plus, I greatly value the independence and grounding being an academic provides.

To folks asking: no I haven't yet finalized the book title/publisher but am working on it. Hopefully soon. I'm hoping to try to use the pandemic experience, but to talk about broader themes about society, institutions and knowledge.
