So the news is out. I'm going to be a regular columnist with the New York Times. I started blogging about a decade ago simply because I had things to say, and thought it would be good to have more academic voices in the public sphere. It's been a journey, for sure.https://twitter.com/cliffordlevy/status/1429796257493553162 …

always appreciate how you maintain a sense of responsibility for your large platform like this!

Waited till original tweet was deleted. Still I get wary because things get misunderstood or mis-reacted to so easily.

Wow, I'd never guess that you weren't a native speaker! Love reading your work.

More concerned about you keeping your independent perspective than any fussy grammatical/stylistic issues (this is partly how the Times has lost its way…via narcissistic attachment to its own internal culture & positioning.)

Ugh, I feel you on the indefinite vs definite pronouns. For a Finnish speaker, it's just a foreign concept, so you're never entirely confident on them. Turkish probably has more in common with Finnish grammar-wise, than either of our languages with English

Speaking of which: Periods go *inside* parentheses containing complete, stand-alone sentences, never *outside* of them. Good luck blaming *that* on being a non-native speaker.

Dumb question: does your NYT contract include access to resources to help fact check your pieces similar to what happened with The Atlantic & Yvonne Rolzhausen's fact checking team? You've referenced past NYT pieces being fact checked, but wondering how that works in future..

(Please don't try to find and bother this person! It was friendly. A jest! I just find it funny especially since I'll probably never stop confusing indefinite and definite pronouns etc.—non-native speaker woes).
