So I finally watched The Chair. Obviously, there are a lot of department/setting specific parts (English department seemingly in a liberal arts college) that may not resonate with everyone in academia. But the department copier had no code? Come on.

Also the idea that being a department chair is uniformly seen as a promotion? I know lots of people outside of academia believe this... And maybe there are places like that but.. Okay, maybe we shouldn't talk about it.

The way I phrase it is that my sins have never been grievous enough for me to be a department chair. Alternatively, I just quote Gen. Sherman: If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve. Fortunately, my colleagues know better than to dare me.

My colleagues are quite aware of my attitudes… (Besides, we have a new chair as of July 1, so I'm safe for a few more years.)

Please do! (Assuming, of course, that we actually have the semester in person—that isn't obvious to me…)
