Also the idea that being a department chair is uniformly seen as a promotion? I know lots of people outside of academia believe this...
And maybe there are places like that but..
Okay, maybe we shouldn't talk about it.

Also The Chair was missing the well-meaning relative saying: “I think you should get a job in <insert location closer to relative>. I know [chair or professor in unrelated department | administrative person at provost’s office] who can put in a good word for you.” Crucial cliche!

Oh. So right! No way there is no code.

My dept has never had a code (since 1991). Worked at 1 uni and 3 CCs and none of them had codes. I currently admin my dept copier. No code. In fact, I filled 3 work orders to attach faculty computers to copier last week.

Not only were the details and particularities askew, the minor characters were all trite and mostly stale and predictable. Ju-Ju was the fresh air that kept me engaged. Enough left hanging to be disappointing but not enough left hanging to warrant a second season.

A kid at school was so excited to tell me that the school copier code was 4242, the answer to life, the universe, and everything, but twice. I’d been the one to choose the code years ago, and he was the first one to notice, so he was doubly chuffed.

http://Despair.com used to have a little stamp on their packing slips that said something like "lovingly packed by employee #90125." I emailed them asking if this was a reference to the Yes album - they gave me a gift certificate for being the first to ask about it!

LOL even in the v late 70s/early 80s, on the gigantic old copiers at UCSF (mom worked there), you had to use some sort of device that made sure that your dept was charged when you used the copiers.

Ours has never had a code. However, we do maintain a page count which our contractor keeps track of. Can confirm since 1991.
