Just a reminder that the 21 & 28 day intervals were chosen to maximize profits, not effectiveness. The optimal interval with respect to population health is undoubtedly longer.

I would say it was chosen to speed up trials, which made sense. However, I agree that pointing out the basic stuff that a lot of people are *now* pointing out, that longer intervals are both the norm and expected better outcome, was somehow tarred as not following the science.

Notwithstanding this important point, I assume you both saw that they did test for a dosing interval impact and didn’t find one? (admittedly using a somewhat dubious cutoff of +/- 9 weeks, where most of UK <9 weeks will have been ~8 rather than ~3)

Yes, I saw that. Longer intervals are better, even if no impact on effectiveness, since it raises population immunity sooner via partial protection. (And this convo massively important globally where vax supply v. limited.)

Yes, unfortunately, that conversation just couldn't happen—we never even got a trial which would so obviously help. There will be very tragic papers written later, after all this is over, because we do have data from Canada and UK who just went ahead and implemented dose-sparing.

The history books chronicling this pandemic will read like horror novels.

Don't worry the next generation will memory hole everything just like we've done with every past pandemic.

Next generation? lol. How about last month. Remember all the Seychelles panic stories? Absolutely no follow-up, and now they are writing the exact same panic story for Iceland. Also will not have any follow-up. Goldfish have better memory.
