I’ll try to pass the message to the many trapped in Kabul and other provinces, burning their documents in hiding, sending harrowing, despairing and unanswered appeals for help. (I guess we can assume the already-executed would have apologized for the unnecessary stress on us?)

We lost a war. It’s messy. Not everyone is going to make it out. But there’s no option on the table that allows us to get everyone out and somehow end the war. We can withdraw with as many people as possible or we can stay and try to reconquer the country. That’s the choice.

Of course not everybody will get out, which is why Yglesias is being an extraordinary tool when he proposes that we'll all feel like big silly billies when everyone has gotten out fine.
