Outbreaks can happen or be detected away from where they started?
Big cities or transportation hubs are places where outbreaks can emerge?
But can we not portray a huge, modern city with a lab that had been there since the 1950s, way before SARS, as some sort of bat habitat?

The amount of motivated reasoning that can get a pass because people like the conclusion is mind-blowing. Lab safety, wet markets/wildlife trade, people traveling etc. are all reasonable topics/queries. Wuhan lab being purposefully set up near bats/coronaviruses? Come on, folks.

No, Colbert got it wrong, but I'm now encountering articles trying to make the case Colbert was right on that. Like here, in the Washington Post quoting a Nature article quoting someone. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/06/15/jon-stewart-lab-leak-colbert/ … https://twitter.com/APunkRockFuture/status/1404862852880650241 …pic.twitter.com/Z1wvmXBBcy

Occasionally, there are topics I don't feel informed at all from reading traditional media. This lab/zoonosis issue is one of them. Please don't take this as an endorsement of any theory, but my opinion is that people following this from most media can't even get a good overview.

I didn't say that. Lab safety/practices is a valid issue, wet markets/wildlife trade is a valid issue. Neither are conspiracy theories, never have been and the media coverage still hasn't caught up, imo. Too much hand-waving going on for a serious topic.https://twitter.com/poliscific/status/1404865914756079629 …

You’re already coming into this with the a priori assumption that the source was a lab leak

I was disturbed by Jon Stewart’s rant last night. At best, it’s a bit that flopped.
-
Agreed, I am also disappointed in Stewart. Fortunately Colbert did not fully agree with him.
