They had an outbreak mostly among the remaining unvaccinated, people started reasoning from that the vaccines weren't working because the vaccinated had some cases, too. Thread of carnage among the unvaccinated *is* the point of my piece, along with why vaccines are the answer.

Herd immunity: "resistance to the spread of an infectious disease within a population that is based on pre-existing immunity of a high proportion of individuals as a result of previous infection or vaccination." If vaccines don't provide suff immunity to prevent transmission 1/2

then herd immunity can't be achieved through vaccines. Your point is spot on -- she's just avoiding it.

I try to avoid stupid Twitter, but it sometimes finds me, like Joy. Psyber: the problem there is "herd immunity" will not stop an outbreak among the unvaccinated even after the calculated threshold, which is an abstract number to begin with not a binary gate, would be reached.

You can, of course, reach herd immunity especially with the vaccines we have, but you can still have outbreaks among unvaxxed. It's true that vaccines that allow more breakthrough cases may allow more transmission, but not the case with most ones we have, need more data on rest.

About a third of the cases when 2/3 were vaccinated = vaccines not effective at preventing cases. We don't know if they prevented severe illness/ death. Without data, everything is speculation. And so the declaration that the vaccines "worked" is baseless. And she knows it.

Joy blocking you before once again, pointing out that the health minister of Seychelles said no deaths among the vaccinated, and also not even critical cases, and the vast vast majority of the cases were among the unvaccinated and vaccinated breakthroughs were mild.
