Let's start a thread with pandemic "mitigations" that are as *on brand* for the country while also as pointless as possible. Sri Lanka has a strong entry below. I'll be submitting one right below that. (Warning: gallows humor will likely show up, and may not be for everyone).https://twitter.com/yudhanjaya/status/1394348662558400513 …

My submission from Turkey is a refined one: the lone swimmer was *pulled* from the water to be talked at from a close distance by two police officers, and may well need to go to an indoors court to pay a fine. (Tourists, though, are allowed to swim there).https://twitter.com/indigodergisi/status/1388539306189414403 …

Remember we are looking for *on brand* for the location and pointless, high score on both increases competitiveness. Merely pointless doesn't count as much because that's just too many examples right now.

Yes, this may be the sad US winner. Announcing a weird travel ban late (and not strong enough if one really wanted to shut the border) but causing a rush back and then making the people wait in cramped queues indoors while handing out disinfectant wipes. https://twitter.com/malatesting/status/1394381749212352517 …pic.twitter.com/0VzwpfIJvV

in Germany, no one[citation needed] wanted AstraZeneca because it has a slightly lower protection. So now it's recommended to give the second dose after 4-6 weeks instead of 12, thus reducing the protection *significantly*.

TBH, in Germany everyone who was involved with vaccination information gave AZ a bad reputation. It really sucks. And the fact that the AZ people with the 2nd dose after 4-6 weeks will be "done" just in time for summer vacation doesn't have anything to do with it either.
