The CDC mask guidance switched too fast without enough explanation and overlooks key sociological factors for indoor mask mandates—especially to protect workers and the immunocompromised. Better to have announced benchmarks—and kept it up just a bit more. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/14/opinion/coronavirus-masks-vaccines.html …pic.twitter.com/wedLXzHlwr

My $.02: It’s not just that vaxed have lowered personal risk they have far less transmission potential in setting of breakthrough infection so risk of a vaxed person transmitting to an immunocompromised individual is tiny Since not a mandate, vaxed ppl can choose to wear masks

The problem is the sociology: it's not enforceable anymore. Indoors (like in grocery stores) it's all or nothing, to be honest. The people refusing to vaccinate, for example, are not likely to be voluntarily wearing mask. So my worry isn't transmission from the vaccinated.

I think this is the whole point, and CDC knows it. And with 50% w/ vax, another large portion with natural immunity, and exponential decay, hospitals clearing out, we've reach endemicity. Time to pick up pieces of collateral damage of this stupid mask debate, and restore health

Where are you getting 50% vaxx rate? 🤔

Why is the CDC highlighting the one most misleadingly encouraging stat, when so many people (such as you right now) then use that as an excuse to relax precautions? What good is this Pollyanna approach? Only 36% of U.S. population has both shots. We need double that.pic.twitter.com/TQ28Ead1R5

Delayed dose worked exceedingly well in UK, even increases immunity https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01299-y … Additionally, natural immunity is a real and significant thing that people like you deliberately or ignorantly ignore https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.04.20.21255670v1 …pic.twitter.com/cmFMzUKO0e

In US we don't have delayed dose, we have "only one dose." Americans are unimaginably selfish compared to other populations, and much more likely to free ride than risk even the slightest personal inconvenience for the common good. US needs to tie masks to *population* benchmarks

As far as natural immunity, you must not read the Lancet, because the February article "Resurgence of COVID-19 in Manaus, Brazil, despite high seroprevalence" describes a town with 75% natural immunity that saw a huge spike in COVID. You also ignore debilitating Long COVID.

That seropositivity rate is shaky, in my view. The sample was not just random, it was very biased.

I hope you're right, because I found that study surprising and discouraging. I had hoped vax-deniers would eventually get as good protection from natural immunity, but that study suggests otherwise
