In fairness, I'd say more of what happened is those who conflated "believe science" with "believe this set of experts [ahem, us] rather than the other set". Plus, of course the usual disciplinary divides.

Thanks for writing that piece, utterly superb synthesis of the mistakes made, why they where made, and how to properly address them. Possibly the most important piece on the pandemic, or will be in retrospect. I'd be delighted to read a continuation/collection w/ ur other data.
