Ian, as an American of Indian origin (and a conservative to boot), I would appreciate if you don't use a tragedy to score political points. Besides, India doesn't have universal healthcare.

US is not a private healthcare system by any definition. We have taken the worst of both worlds and constructed a Frankeistein's monster. Also, 'how we pay for healthcare' is broken. The healthcare infrastructure itself is best in the world.

That's because the United States has the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act which guarantees *universal health care* for life threatening illness or injury, though. For overall health care, where you'd rather be isn't that clear.
