A good step, that could go further. I have a forthcoming piece on this with @mugecevik and @sdbaral (in BMJ) arguing for removing outdoor mask mandates (should be out tomorrow!). Also see below my quote to @PaulSaxMD earlier for his piece in the NEJM journal watch. https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1387078753336057863 …pic.twitter.com/5mdSyQaKel

(All three are excellent resources for media). Our piece is longer but for my part: I think people can be advised to wear masks outdoors for prolonged encounters at close distance, especially if unvaccinated and/or if talking/yelling but restrictive mandates are not necessary.

What would your advice be for unvaccinated children from different households playing outdoors at a playground?

2/2 I read that EVERYONE was safe a year ago outside at a distance regardless of vaccine status (since there weren’t vaccines). That’s how we visited with my mom all spring and summer.

NYT is totally botching this reporting. The CDC guidance on masks outdoors equally applies to *unvaccinated* people. And the restrictions are on "crowded spaces" not "large public spaces".

The outdoor mask mandate here in CT ends on Friday. We'll be doing indoor mask mandates for some time longer.
