To understand why this is encouraging vaccine news, note that this is a *cluster* (overdispersed pathogen) *among the elderly* (vulnerable population) *who live together* (allows high attack rate). So way worse scenario compared with trials but vaccines *still* highly protective.https://twitter.com/BillHanage/status/1384968364460843016 …

You should write to the
@nytimes. They're what passes for a "paper of record" these days, yet their editorial priorities have been dangerously (and increasingly) irresponsible since the mid-to-late 00's. The article you single out is now typical of their click-bait journalismThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I don't really think it matters that this was a "*cluster*" among (old) people "*who live together*". What matters is the fact that we can compare those who were vaccinated vs those who were not - and it comes out the same
the vaccine is *highly* effective.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Older persons seem to have a less robust response to the flu vaccine; what about others? https://www.cell.com/immunity/fulltext/S1074-7613(15)00490-2?_returnURL=https%3A%2F%2Flinkinghub.elsevier.com%2Fretrieve%2Fpii%2FS1074761315004902%3Fshowall%3Dtrue …

@zeynep 100% agree with your analysis. An additional takeaway: unvaccinated people place vaccinated people at greatly increased risk vs vaccinated people. Thus indoor masking, ventilation, etc. remain prudent when mixing vaxed and unvaxed. Please set me straight if you disagree.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
