That’s not what his garbled string—just thrown together to scare–says. Enabling this isn’t harmless.

I'm correcting your thread, which puts out information that isn't accurate (e.g. Scottish school openings). I've put down an evidenced thread here about variant spread in schools- we've learned a lot about this from our experience with B117 and now with B.1.351

My thread isn’t about Scottish schools since 103 mostly travel linked cases oversampled in a database aren’t relevant to them. But I like the correction urge! The world would really benefit from correcting the garbled, scary and misleading tweets @DrEricDing had strung together.

It's not a correction 'urge'. You've stated before that you'd like to be corrected if you made an error- Scottish schools returned (primaries- P1-3) on 22nd Feb, and remaining primaries & some secondaries 15th March. The link you've put in is remaining returns after easter.

Thank you for that part. The partial opening of elementary schools in Scotland isn’t linked to 103 travel-linked cases. Garbled scaremongering damages credibility. It’s a pattern. I could pick apart his threads everyday. Maybe I should because usually it’s not that much work.

I don't think he said anywhere though that opening of primaries has resulted in 103 travel-linked cases (there are a significant proportion that are not travel linked btw). I was saying that Scottish schools have been open for a while & resulted in increases in transmission.

In response to the link that suggested schools haven't been open sufficiently for impact on transmission yet. I fully support corrections in science- but they need to be based on specific critique of evidence, rather than getting personal.

Using terms like 'garbled', 'fear-mongering', 'implying vaccine failure' seems unfairly personal to me. So please go ahead and ask Eric to correct things you feel he's got wrong on the evidence. But let's do it fairly - and it goes both ways -I hope you will also do the same.

I find a lot of critiques of Eric are derogatory in a personal way- in a way that seems to dehumanise, and degrade. He's done a lot of useful work in communication- It's entirely possible he may make errors, as we all do- but these discussions can be respectful & evidence-focused

I think those discussions are also more likely to be constructive, and lead to better communication overall.

I don’t like it when it gets personally derogatory. Agree it happens. I’ll go through his threads regularly. I think he’s doing something he should stop, and I’ve asked him privately for ~a year now. You’re right. More public focus on his *content* should help, and I’ll do that.

Thanks- I find that engaging publicly in evidence-based critique works well- it's transparent, and when it's specific and evidenced, it can result in reflection, constructive criticism, and change - either in scientific discourse, or at least in public communication of evidence.

The funny thing is that multiple other experts have attempted to do this multiple times to no success; he just ignores them. I really don't get this need to defend him at this juncture.

As a total novice not taking sides on the substance, I want to add that Eric (in the thread below) literally uses phrases and rhetorical constructions like "the scariest thing?" that directly imply that we the reading public should be scared.https://mobile.twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1384077181664432131 …
