Unfortunately, there are so few "photo editors" that even exist, much that make those decisions on a story to story basis, especially at the level of most legacy newsrooms in the country. We rely on reporters or producers to make those decisions live.

There is obviously the ability to change on the fly, but there isn't that level of oversight at so many places because of smaller staffs and conglomeration

For lack of a better place to ask, a lot of coverage on the reasons for the exponential growth of cases in India has been attributed to outdoor events, like political rallies, cricket,religious gatherings (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/20/opinion/india-covid-crisis.html …). Is outdoors+within short-range airborne a no-no?

Intuitively I dont see how these would be different to the Super Bowl and the also related indoor activities. Are these actually not the drivers, or is there something different going on, like surface-level air pollution that is affecting the airborne transmission outdoors?
