Which experts from *which* fields isn't an easy or easily settled question, but it's very consequential. (And that's before we even get to the within-field disagreements among experts.) Medical doctors and public health experts, for example, do not have identical considerations.

(And the above is an important point regardless of what one thinks of the pause, or even agrees with it... What considerations are relevant to a particular decision is an important question, something to consider before we can even get to discussing the decision).

Almost all the people on the committee making the J&J blunder were DOCTORS?! That blows me away.

There are also implications for the developing world. The U.S, EU, Canada and Australia have blown the issues with AZ and/or J&J completely out of proportion, considering the crisis situation the world is in. Vaccine hesitancy is insidiously infectious.

Agree composition is important, but is what the authors say about the familiarity/expertise of ACIP members accurate? Just because many have an MD after their name, doesn't mean they are mainly focused on rare vaccine side effects or that they're blind to all the issues at play.

Yes. The different contexts are important. But also the experts from adjacent fields will have, by definition, less buy-in to the tribal truths (aka orthodoxy) of any given expert class.
